U.S. Senators Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and John Boozman (R-AR) introduced a bill to create a National Advisory Commission on long-term care services for seniors and individuals in need of support for activities of daily living. The bipartisan Supporting Our Seniors Act would direct the new Commission to assess and provide Congress specific recommendations on how to improve service delivery, financing, workforce adequacy, and other issues related to long-term care in order to help increase seniors’ and individuals with disabilities’ access to affordable care services. “Having cared for my aging parents, I know how important access to affordable, quality care and support services can be for families and their loved ones,” said Senator Rosen. “I also know that with rising costs, finding these services has become even more difficult for Nevada families. I’m committed to expanding access to care for seniors— that’s why I’m introducing this bipartisan bill to help provide valuable information to Congress so that we can ensure seniors have access to the care and support that they deserve.” “Access to affordable and reliable resources specifically designed to empower Arkansas seniors is a critical part of effective, long-term care,” said Senator Boozman. “I am proud to help lead a bipartisan approach to prioritize the needs of our growing aging population and empowering Americans and their trusted caregivers to better support their overall quality of life.” “Every American deserves the opportunity to age with dignity and on their own terms,” said Dr. Steve Landers, CEO of the National Alliance for Care at Home (the Alliance). “The Alliance celebrates the Supporting Our Seniors Act and commends Senators Rosen and Boozman for their leadership in advancing home and community-based care solutions. This bipartisan commission represents an important step toward building a care continuum that honors patient choice and ensures high-quality care delivery.” “The American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine is proud to offer its strong support for the Supporting Our Seniors Act, and we commend Sen. Rosen and Sen. Boozman for their leadership in recognizing the important role palliative care plays in improving the lives of people with complex care needs” said American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine Chief Medical Officer Kristina Newport MD, HMDC FAAHPM. “As our population ages, Seniors and their families need more support to help them live as well as possible. This Act is critical to better align resources with what matters most to vulnerable people in our communities.” As co-founder and co-chair of the Senate’s bipartisan Comprehensive Care Caucus, Senator Rosen has been a leader in helping lower costs for Nevada’s seniors. Recently, she introduced a bipartisan bill to reduce prescription drug costs for seniors. This came after she already helped lower medicine costs for seniors, supporting a cap on prescription drug prices for Nevada seniors that started at the beginning of the year. Senator Rosen also created a Senior Resource Guide to help provide Nevada’s seniors with key information about federal, state, and community-based resources available to them.
Video: Supreme Court Decision Endorses Racial Profiling in ICE Raids
On Monday, the Supreme Court issued a shocking decision in Vasquez Perdomo v. Noem, allowing immigration agents to conduct roving immigration raids and stops — even when race is a central factor in their decision to detain someone. This ruling threatens to normalize racial profiling and undermines the constitutional protections that should apply to all of us, regardless of race or immigration status.Justice Sonia Sotomayor, in her powerful dissent, warned: “We should not have to live in a country where the Government can seize anyone who looks Latino, speaks Spanish, and appears to work a low wage job. Rather than stand idly by while our constitutional freedoms are lost, I dissent.” To better understand the implications of this decision, we invite you to watch and share this short video:
Gallego, Colleagues Launch Probe into Trump Administration’s Betrayal of Immigrant Service Members, Veterans, and Military Families
Senator Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) joined his colleagues in opening a new investigation into the Trump administration’s arrest, detention, and deportation of non-citizen service members, veterans, and military families. The lawmakers wrote to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Department of Defense (DOD) demanding an explanation for these practices, which go against decades of precedent and long-standing DHS policy indicating that military service offers protection from immigration enforcement for military service members, veterans, and their immediate family members. “The Trump administration’s actions threaten U.S. national security interests and erode the U.S. military’s credibility when it makes promises to its service members who have put their lives on the line for our country,” wrote the lawmakers. Over the past century, hundreds of thousands of immigrant service members have fought for the nation and contributed to victories in military conflicts. Non-citizen service members fill recruitment gaps and provide foreign language skills and medical expertise to the military that are difficult for recruiters to find and expensive to teach. In April, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) rescinded its former policy of considering military service a “significant mitigating factor” when deciding whether to pursue immigration enforcement and issued a new policy less protective of service members and their families. Following the policy change, the wife of a Marine Corps veteran and mother of two young children was detained by ICE during a green card application appointment — despite having lived in the United States for over a decade. Then, in June, a father of three Marines was repeatedly punched in the head by masked ICE agents, and a U.S. citizen who served in the Army was rounded up in an indiscriminate raid and held without explanation. The Trump administration’s actions against veterans and non-citizen military families have even prompted at least one veteran to leave the United States. Multiple constituents affected by the administration’s reckless changes to immigration protections for military families have shared their stories with representatives in Congress. For example, Sae Joon Park, a disabled Purple Heart veteran residing in Hawaii, was forced to self-deport by the Trump administration despite having lived in the U.S. for nearly five decades. Additionally, Maria Pelaez, a mother of an active-duty U.S. Marine, was detained by ICE, and ICE has refused to release her despite a judge’s decision to grant her bond. The Trump administration may be targeting military families using information they voluntarily provided to the federal government in connection with their service. When applying for immigration benefits, like “parole in place,” military families provide extensive personal data, including their physical addresses, physically identifying information such as eye color and height, country of birth, and more. Now, USCIS may be using that information to refer service members or their families to ICE for removal proceedings, even if they were previously deprioritized for enforcement actions. Even as the administration took steps to backtrack on its previous immigration enforcement protections, military recruiters continued using immigration benefits as a talking point to recruit non-citizens, “promoting enlistment as a way to gain ‘protection from deportation’ for family members.” Only recently did the Marines stop the practice, and it is unclear whether other military services continue to use this recruitment tactic. “We demand an explanation for why DHS is betraying its promises to service members who play a key role in protecting U.S. national security,” wrote the members. The coalition asked the two agencies to provide, by September 16, 2025: information about the number of non-citizens serving in the military; a list of service members, veterans, and family members who have been arrested, detained, or deported since January 2025; the impact of these new immigration policies on recruitment, readiness, and morale; what information about non-citizen service members and military family members the Pentagon provides DHS and ICE; and more.
Padilla, Schiff Lead 19 Senators in Amicus Brief Fighting Trump Abuse of Military Deployments
A brief filed with the circuit court hearing the case against Trump’s use of the military in Los Angeles warns of continued abuse of the military in other U.S. cities. U.S. Senators Alex Padilla and Adam Schiff (both D-Calif.), Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), and 18 other Senators filed an amicus brief with the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in the lawsuit brought against President Trump for his misuse of the U.S. military earlier this year. The lawsuit originated from the State of California after Trump deployed 4,000 members of the California National Guard and 700 active-duty U.S. Marines to Los Angeles without providing legal justification or obtaining approval from state or local officials. “Donald Trump’s militarized spectacle in Los Angeles was a blatantly unlawful attempt to distract from his failing political agenda and enact his cruel mass deportation campaign. Trump’s deployment of the military to ‘blue’ cities across America has never been about public safety — it’s about retribution and control,” said Senator Padilla. “This abuse of power is a threat to much more than just California or immigrant communities: if the Circuit Court allows the President to bypass the Governor of California to federalize the National Guard to suppress peaceful protests for immigrants’ rights, what’s to stop him from suppressing other rights across the country? Our arguments to the Court make clear that Trump’s unprecedented militarization of Los Angeles should not be used as a playbook for terrorizing other cities across America.” After the Trump Administration deployed National Guard troops across Washington, D.C., and took control of the city’s police department, Padilla supported legislation granting the District full authority over the D.C. National Guard and the Metropolitan Police Department. Additionally, Padilla placed a hold on Trump’s nominee to serve as vice chief of the National Guard Bureau, Lieutenant General Thomas Carden, until the Trump Administration releases all remaining U.S. military forces from their unjustified deployment to Los Angeles. In addition to Padilla, Schiff, and Durbin, Senators Angela Alsobrooks (D-Md.), Michael Bennet (D-Colo.), Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-Del.), Cory Booker (D-N.J.), Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.), John Hickenlooper (D-Colo.), Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii), Andy Kim (D-N.J.), Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), Ed Markey (D-Mass.), Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.), Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Peter Welch (D-Vt.), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), and Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) also signed the brief. Senator Padilla has been a leading voice in opposition to President Trump’s militarization of Los Angeles. In June, Padilla led the entire Senate Democratic Caucus in demanding that President Trump immediately withdraw all military forces from Los Angeles and cease all threats to deploy the National Guard or active-duty service members to American cities. Padilla and Schiff also recently demanded the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) provide information on operational details related to the ongoing deployment of California National Guard personnel in Los Angeles, first federalized by President Trump on June 9, 2025.
Brave Latina Leader Calls for Unity Against Illegal Immigration Raids in LA County
A Vice Mayor on the Frontlines The tough Latina Vice Mayor of Cudahy, California, Cynthia Gonzalez, has been in the news after days of being in the middle of it all. During the illegal raids by ICE, bounty hunters, some local police, sheriffs, and Trump supporters who were granted permission to target Latino citizens, Gonzalez was out in the streets supporting her community. She told the federal agents to stop harassing the citizens of her city. But what made the news even more striking was her call to action for local gang members. Gonzalez challenged well-known street gangs, including 18th Street and Florence, to come out and support their community. She noted that many Chicanos, Latinos, and other citizens were already protesting peacefully against the raids and questioned why gang members were not speaking up. Her call had a significant impact. Members of these gangs, along with others across LA County and Southern California, responded respectfully to support their communities. Government Response and Legal Outcome California Governor Gavin Newsom, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, and Chicano and Latino leadership challenged Trump’s actions. A judge ultimately ordered the National Guard to be removed from the streets of California, marking a victory for community-led protests. To all the brave people who stood up with peaceful demonstrations: thank you. The community, including people of all colors, showed Trump and his team that illegal actions against Latinos would not be tolerated. Many local law enforcement officers refused to participate in these actions, earning respect from the community. Cudahy: A City of Chicano and Latino Residents Cudahy is a Los Angeles suburb home to 22,000 residents, about 10 miles (16 km) south of downtown LA. According to U.S. Census data, 97% of residents identify as Chicano or Latino. Interestingly, MAGA Republicans even attempted to remove Gonzalez from office and considered jail time for her leadership and public statements. Comparisons were made between her actions and Trump’s January 6, 2021, attack on the White House. In the end, Latino media coverage and public support ensured that she remained in her position. Social Media Controversy Gonzalez’s comments on social media, in a now-deleted video, called on gang members to defend their neighborhoods: “You guys tag everything up, claiming hood, and now that your hood’s being invaded by the biggest gang there is, there ain’t a peep out of you… We’re out there fighting our turf, protecting our turf, protecting our people, and, like, where you at?” The Department of Homeland Security condemned her remarks as “despicable,” claiming they could incite assaults against federal ICE agents. The Los Angeles Police Protective League also called for her resignation and potential prosecution, arguing that her statements put law enforcement at risk. Gonzalez did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Background on Cynthia Gonzalez According to her city biography: The school district confirmed that Gonzalez has been on leave of absence since June 1, 2025. The city of Cudahy stated that her comments reflect her personal views and do not represent the official position of the city. Election Details Gonzalez was elected in 2022 with 880 votes. California municipal elections are nonpartisan, meaning party labels do not appear on the ballot.

The Importance of Enhanced ACA Tax Credits Across States
Access to affordable health insurance is crucial for individuals to receive necessary care, especially those living with chronic conditions such as cancer. Research from the American Cancer Society shows that uninsured individuals are less likely to receive routine cancer screenings, leading to later diagnoses when treatment becomes more difficult and costly. What Are the Enhanced ACA Tax Credits? The Affordable Care Act (ACA) helps people purchase health insurance through the Marketplace by offering tax credits that lower the cost of monthly premiums. These credits make it possible for individuals and families to afford health coverage. The amount of the credit depends on income and is adjusted on a sliding scale — the lower the income, the greater the subsidy. These credits are vital for reducing monthly premiums and making health coverage accessible to millions. The American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) enhanced these credits by: The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) further extended these enhanced tax credits through the end of 2025. Who Benefits From the Enhanced ACA Tax Credits? The following map illustrates the percentage of people in each state who have enrolled in a Marketplace plan and are benefiting from the enhanced ACA tax credits.
If Donny Cannot Get It, Donny Will Steal It
He is immune from violating the U.S. Constitution. Most people following the news on politics already suspected that Trump would be pulling off dirty tricks to keep his MAGA party in power. Greg Abbott, the Texas puppet, has started the movement that Republicans are using to try to win in 2026. They know they will be thrown out of office by the people. So what do they do? They plan to steal the elections by redrawing districts to make sure Democrats stay out. This is the most undemocratic politics ever seen in the history of the United States. We have an anti-American as president. The USA has become an embarrassment to the world. But not all the blame goes to the king puppet, Donald Trump. He is only the spokesperson for a group of anti-American people led by the devil himself, Stephen Miller, and those behind Project 2025. They are the ones working to destroy the USA. Honestly, one cannot believe how reckless and corrupt they are. Really? We the people can stand on the sidelines and watch our democracy and freedom disappear, see our dreams turned into nightmares, and our hard work and property taken by the government. We can stand and watch freedom vanish OR we can stand as One Nation Under God and fight back. I don’t mean with violence (except in true self-defense). We will win by getting involved: be educated on daily issues affecting Latinos, protect your family by knowing your rights, help families in need, stay informed with the news and social media, and research where information comes from, since not all sources are accurate. We must strengthen our faith in God, be ready to VOTE in 2026, continue to protest this emerging dictatorial government, and use our purchasing power to support businesses that stand for freedom and democracy — especially companies that hire and respect our community. Large corporations are bowing to the king puppet and firing people of color. Latinos hold $4 trillion in annual economic power, and it is growing. There are 34 million qualified Latino voters for the 2026 elections, while the Latino labor force keeps the nation’s food chain running 24/7. Buy from businesses that are allies of Latinos. We are seeing more Chicanos, Mexicans, Latinos, Native Americans, African Americans, Asian Americans, and white allies uniting, because we all see where Trump is taking this country. The MAGA extremists are starting to panic and move quickly because they know their time is running out. We the people are coming together as One Nation Under God. We are fighting back with resistance, and we will save the USA from this team of anti-Americans and dictators. Not all Republicans stand with MAGA. Now, let’s see who among them has the courage to challenge the king puppet and help save the country. Please stay alert, stay close to friends and family, and share what’s happening in your community on social media every day. Help those in need whenever you can. Thanks to the brave Texas Democrats who are resisting and winning, and to leaders like California Governor Gavin Newsom and Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, who have been among the most vocal against the Trump-MAGA agenda, along with millions of citizens standing behind them. Support the politicians who support democracy and our freedom. MAGA is out to destroy America. We cannot allow this to happen. Our children deserve better. Send us your comments at: info@MundoLatinoToday.com
Hispanic Federation Celebrates U.S. District Court Ruling Defending Right to Birthright Citizenship
In July, U.S. District Judge Joseph Laplante issued a nationwide block against President Donald Trump’s executive order seeking to end birthright citizenship. The United States District Court for the District of New Hampshire issued a new, class-certified injunction against the Administration, preventing it from denying citizenship to potentially millions of Americans. Jessica Orozco Guttlein, Acting Co-President of the Hispanic Federation, issued the following statement: “On the heels of a Supreme Court decision that has outlined new tests for judicial protection, the scope of today’s injunction ensures that birthright citizenship remains the rule of law in this country for the time being. Every person born in the United States is a U.S. citizen. That right is enshrined in the 14th Amendment of our Constitution and continues to stand as the law of the land — no executive order has the authority to curtail it. As litigation surrounding this order proceeds through the courts, Hispanic Federation will continue to serve as a source of reliable, verified, and relevant information for our community. In turn, we will continue to stand with our sister organizations and families across the country to defend the rights and promises of the Constitution.” Hispanic Federation (HF) is a nonprofit membership and advocacy organization, founded in 1990, committed to empowering and advancing the Hispanic community, with a focus on low-income, marginalized, and immigrant Latines. With programs in 43 states and territories, HF’s focus areas include immigration, economic empowerment, civic engagement, disaster relief, philanthropy, education, health, and the environment. HF also maintains ongoing public education campaigns and meets the organizational development needs of its member agencies through grant-making and capacity-building assistance.
